Your chin can completely change the look of your face. Depending on its shape and size, your chin can make you appear more feminine, masculine, strong, weak, chiseled, delicate, and so on. In the past, if you wanted to augment your chin to switch up your look, your only option was plastic surgery. Now, however, you can dramatically change your chin via an appointment you can fit in on your lunch break, all thanks to chin enhancement fillers.
Non-surgical chin augmentation hasn’t been covered much by traditional media, but it’s become a highly requested treatment, perhaps in large part because of social media. Many social media influencers freely talk about the cosmetic treatments they get, such as Botox and chin enhancement fillers. And as social media sites like Instagram help to spread the word about the amazing results you can get from chin fillers, the demand for them has certainly increased.
Though chin enhancement fillers are becoming much more common, they’re still a lesser-known and lesser-understood type of cosmetic treatment. In order to shed some light on what’s becoming one of the hottest non-surgical treatments, below, we’re going over everything you need to know about chin enhancement fillers.
What Are Chin Enhancement Fillers?
Chin enhancement fillers are dermal filler injections that are strategically placed in and around the chin in order to bring balance to the lower face and achieve the patient’s desired look. In some cases, a patient can achieve the look they want with only chin injections. However, often, you actually need to add volume to other parts of the face– such as the jawline or the cheeks– in order to balance the chin. So, chin enhancement fillers may be placed in the chin itself, in other parts of the face, or in both the chin and in other parts of the face.
Note that there’s no single type of filler that’s best for the chin. Hyaluronic acid fillers with larger HA molecules, such as Juvederm Voluma XC, tend to be ideal for adding volume to the face, but that may or may not be the right type of filler for your needs. At our office, Dr. Zadeh will assess your unique bone structure, cosmetic goals, and placement needs, then will decide which type of injectable will be optimal for your chin enhancement.
Would Non-Surgical Chin Enhancement Be Right For You?
Chin enhancement fillers are an excellent option for many people who want to try a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that will augment the shape of their chin. Non-surgical chin enhancement can help address and correct a variety of cosmetic concerns, including:
- Asymmetry along the chin or jawline
- An under projected or under defined chin (also called a “weak chin”)
- An aging chin and jawline area that has lost volume
- A lack of proportion between the chin and other facial features
- A lack of jawline definition
- Jowls
It’s important to point out that while there are many things chin fillers can do, fillers aren’t the best option for addressing all chin-related cosmetic issues. For example, chin fillers can’t minimize your actual bone structure. Only plastic surgery will be able to remove part of the jawbone. Chin fillers can often make a large chin look smaller or less prominent by adjusting the proportions of the rest of the face. However, in some cases, a person simply wants their chin bone to be significantly smaller, which means that going to a plastic surgeon would be their best option.
Then, injectable fillers are also best for people who want a long-lasting, but temporary cosmetic treatment. Dermal fillers can last anywhere from six months to five years, but they aren’t permanent. Many people see the temporary nature of fillers as a huge advantage over things like chin implants and bone shaving. Because fillers are temporary, you can try them out without feeling worried that you’ll get stuck with results you don’t like. Most of the fillers used for chin augmentation are also dissolvable. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if you don’t like how they look, so you don’t even have to wait for these fillers to naturally dissolve if you don’t like them. With that said, if you’re sure you want a permanent treatment that wouldn’t require future upkeep to maintain results, a surgical procedure like genioplasty may be your preferred option.
What Is Getting Chin Filler Like?
Non-surgical chin augmentation treatment is simple and quick. During your chin filler appointment, Dr. Zadeh will strategically place filler injections around your chin area in order to bring balance and harmony to your face. Treatment time can vary, but a chin filler treatment will generally take around 30 to 60 minutes.
After getting chin filler, no downtime is needed. You can immediately resume your normal daily activities. You’ll see results from your treatment right away, though it can sometimes take around a week to see the final results of your treatment. Some people experience temporary swelling post-treatment, but this side effect is generally mild and usually resolves a week.
Injectable fillers are temporary, so the results of a non-surgical chin enhancement treatment will eventually fade. At our office, the soft-tissue fillers we use most often for chin enhancement tend to start fading after around 9 to 12 months. However, note that if you would like to maintain the results of your treatment, you can do so by scheduling regular maintenance treatments.
