What is the difference between Botox and Dermal fillers such as Juvederm?

What is Botox Cosmetic?

Botox is a purified protein – the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin. It is given as an injection in a simple, nonsurgical procedure that helps reduce wrinkles of the face, especially the frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet near the eyes, and thick bands in the neck.* Botox is also used to treat wrinkles around the mouth, chin dimples, migraine headaches, TMJ, and excessive sweating among others.

Is Botox Safe?

In one word…yes. Having already been in use to treat many conditions for more than 15 years, Botox Cosmetic was officially approved by the FDA in 2002. It is approved in more than 75 countries. Not only is it safe, it also works. In a recent survey of 303 people, 92% were satisfied with the results of their Botox treatments.

Then What are the Risks With Botox?

To date, there have been no allergies associated with Botox. However, there are some common side-effects that may appear after Botox injection. These include headache, respiratory infection, flu type symptoms, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. These risks are higher when your Botox treatments are performed by inexperienced injectors and those who are not board certified physicians.

What is Botox treatment like?

Botox treatment is quick and not invasive. Dr. Michael Zadeh is a board certified surgeon with extensive experience in providing Botox and other nonsurgical cosmetic treatments to men and women in the Sherman Oaks and Los Angeles area. Dr. Zadeh will make a few tiny, precisely placed injections into the muscles that are causing your wrinkles. The injections will cause a weakening of the muscles, making them relax. The wrinkled skin covering the overactive muscles then becomes smooth as the wrinkles are erased.

During your Botox consultation, Dr. Zadeh will decide exactly where to place the injections to give you the best results. No anesthesia is required, although sometimes an ice pack is applied to the area before the injections, for your comfort.

The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes, making it perfect to schedule on your lunch hour if you’re busy, like most of us are. Discomfort is minimal and brief; most people compare the sensation to a bug bite. There is no downtime. You can resume your normal activity immediately.

How soon will I see results? What kind of results can I expect

You can expect to see the results of your Botox Cosmetic injection usually between 5-7 days after your treatment. While there may still be some swelling, don’t worry. The appearance of the injected area will continue to improve for up to a week. Take care to not bend over or lie down for four hours after your injection. Doing so may spread the Botox to other muscles, causing an uneven look.

How do I know if Botox Cosmetic is right for me?

If you are between the ages of 18 and 65, you may be perfect for wrinkle treatment with Botox Cosmetic.

You should not be treated if you have an infection at the potential injection site. Individuals with certain neurological disorders such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Myasthenia Gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at risk of serious side effects. Botox should also not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
